Tampere Hall first Congress Centre in the Nordic Countries to obtain the Nordic Ecolabel
Press release 8 May 2014
Tampere Hall has obtained the Nordic Ecolabel and is the first Congress Centre in the Nordic Countries to do so. The Congress Centre was a pilot in the testing and development of the Nordic Ecolabel criteria designed for hotels, restaurants and congress centres. The Ecolabel was granted as of 2 May 2014 and it is a sign that environmentally the product and services are among the best.
The Nordic Ecolabel is the official ecolabel of the Nordic countries. Its purpose is to provide an environmental labelling scheme that will contribute to a sustainable consumption. Products carrying the Nordic Ecolabel meet extremely high environmental and often climate requirements. A life-cycle perspective of the product is analysed (the product's impact on the environment from raw material/source to waste). Criteria are also set with regard to quality, health aspects and performance/functionality.
Having the Nordic Ecolabel means that Tampere Hall now meets certain criteria within energy consumption. It further encourages the Congress Centre to diminish its waste production and water consumption. As much as 99% of all accumulated waste is either recycled or turned into heat energy. Strong emphasis is also given to using ecologically grown foods in the Tampere Hall restaurant.
‒ Tampere Hall has been a pioneer in environmental issues since 1992, and has been awarded for its work on several occasions. Now we have an official environmental certificate and the development work goes on. The next step along our chosen green path is the implementation of district cooling, which uses water from the Tammerkoski rapids. The implementation is planned for this year, says Property Manager Marko Koivisto of Tampere Hall.
Only those who have been awarded the Nordic Ecolabel may use the logo. In Finland the license is granted by Ecolabel Finland – Motiva Services Oy
